As a rigger you sling heavy loads and guide them into place so the crane operator can move them safely. You assemble, dismantle, replace and relocate steel structures such as tower cranes, masts, pylons and wind turbines. You set up the site, often work at great height and follow the safety rules to the letter. The trade is also known as crane erector or industrial mover. You work in the assembly of steel structures and in industry, from machine relocations to major infrastructure projects. Construction and industrial companies across Flanders, from the ports to the wind farms, are eager to find riggers with the right certificates.

With experience you grow into a rigging foreman or lifting coordinator who plans and directs complete assemblies. Some colleagues switch to crane operator or specialise in offshore and wind-turbine work. International assembly projects are an attractive next step as well.
