What will you do?
In this role, sometimes called a crane driver or crane machinist, you prepare the lifting work, check that the machine functions correctly and put the crane into operation. You sling and hoist loads, distribute them precisely and secure the crane at the end of the shift. The job sits in the construction and public works sector, so you spend your days outdoors and at height across sites in Vlaanderen, always working safely and with respect for the environment.

Your foundation for this occupation
Tower-crane work is a coordinated site activity. Training should combine operation, load information, communication and checks. Ask whether practice uses cab or radio control and how competence is assessed. General safety training does not replace instruction for the actual crane.
From preparation to your first day
Develop the practical skills
Understand lift preparation before operating. Know who signals, what load information is required and whether the receiving team is ready. Practise communication and uncertainty handling under supervision. Follow agreed stopping and consultation procedures for poor visibility or conflicting instructions.
Check your work
Check and report under crane and site instructions. Make changing work areas and conditions known to the responsible person. Record faults and open points at handover. Speed is not success when a load arrives poorly controlled or the receiving team is unprepared.
How can you grow?
Experience can expand across crane types and sites or lead to mentoring. Different configurations require suitable induction. Describe control types, assignments and work with signallers in applications.
