What will you do?
You supply and operate the printing equipment, finish the sign products and then place, mount and present them on site. Alongside that you check the production order and method, set the machine parameters, monitor production, solve malfunctions and control the quality of every job. The role also goes by names such as signmaker, large format printer operator or advertising layout worker.

Your foundation for this occupation
Print and sign combines digital preparation, large-format production, finishing and sometimes installation. End use matters: window film, outdoor banners and vehicle graphics have different requirements. Seek training in materials and processing, not only artwork. Ask which applications the company produces and installs itself.

Develop the practical skills
Develop a job from measurement and design to printing, cutting and finishing. Check scale, reading direction and seam or cut-out positions. Match material to the substrate and use conditions. Resolve uncertainty before processing a full roll or applying a difficult-to-remove product.
Check your work
Inspect size, colour appearance, cut lines and installation completeness. View the result from its intended distance and direction. Keep installation parts clearly identified and supply fitting information. An attractive panel without correct numbering can still be installed incorrectly.
How can you grow?
Specialisations include large format, film finishing, vehicle applications and project coordination. Outdoor or elevated installation needs appropriate training and site instructions. Good signmaking considers future maintenance and removal as well as first appearance.

Substrate, indoor or outdoor use, shape and intended lifespan affect selection. Application and removal also matter. Follow the product specification and its limitations. An unsuitable choice can peel, discolour or damage the surface.
