What will you do?
Working as an industrial pipefitter or pipefitter-welder, you start from metal or plastic tubes and fittings such as bends, valves and flanges. You read isometric drawings, prepare the pipe sections, connect lines and fittings and mount them on site. You carry out conformity checks, record your data and work safely, at height and with respect for the environment.

Your foundation for this occupation
Pipefitting combines spatial understanding, measurement and assembly. Learn isometric drawings and material codes. Ask which pipe materials and joints are practised. Welding is separate; a pipefitter title does not qualify every welded connection.
From preparation to your first day
Develop the practical skills
Prepare a section from drawing and check direction, dimensions and connection points. Keep parts identifiable. Discuss deviations before modifying components. A correctly made pipe in the wrong position is still wrong.
Check your work
Check fit and specified characteristics. Link checks to the section and document changes. System testing and release follow assigned procedures, not individual initiative. Show drawing literacy and a detected dimension error at interview.
How can you grow?
Specialise in materials, sectors, planning or leadership. Compare workshop prefabrication, site assembly and shutdowns. Discuss travel, hours and welding proportion. Avoid confidential plant information in examples.
