What is the difference between a lift technician and a lift repairer?
A lift repairer focuses mainly on fixing faults and breakdowns on existing installations. A lift technician covers the broader scope of installation, maintenance, adjustment and repair across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. In practice the same person often does both, from a breakdown call-out to a full installation.
Is there strong demand for lift technicians across Flanders?
Yes, installation and maintenance firms across Flanders regularly look for lift technicians. The growing stock of lifts and escalators in buildings needs constant servicing and modernisation. If you are technically strong and hold the right safety certifications, you find work quickly.
Which qualifications or certificates do you need as a lift technician?
A technical training in electromechanics or a related field is the usual basis, and much is learned on the job. Safety certifications such as VCA and electrical authorisations like BA4/BA5 are often required. A good understanding of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and a head for heights matter just as much as the diploma.
