As a farm worker you sow and harvest crops such as wheat, barley and potatoes and you take care of farm animals such as cattle, pigs and chickens. In Dutch the job is also known as landbouwer, landbouwarbeider akkerbouw or medewerker melkveefokkerij. You prepare the soil and the plantings, plant, sow or propagate crops and keep an eye on how they develop. You harvest ripe crops according to the instructions. You also maintain your workstation, tools and machinery, follow up the stock and watch over the hygiene of the farm and the animal housing. You follow the rules on safety, environment and production. In Flanders you work in agricultural production, outdoors in every season, on arable, livestock or mixed farms.
