What does an animal breeder do?
An animal breeder breeds wild animals or pets according to breeding objectives. You draw up the breeding planning, apply reproduction techniques and keep a breeding register. Daily care is central: feeding, maintaining the housing, recognising illness or pain and teaching the animals their routines, always within the rules for hygiene, safety and animal welfare.

In which environment does an animal breeder work?
You work in the production side of agriculture and animal care: kennels, breeding farms, apiaries and specialised businesses that raise anything from dogs and cats to reptiles, ostriches or snails. Much of the work happens outside and with your hands. Working with animals and nature is the core of the job, whatever the species.
What is the difference between an animal breeder and an alpaca breeder?
An alpaca breeder is a specialisation of the animal breeder profession, focused on one species. The daily basics are the same: breeding planning, care, feeding, housing and a breeding register. As a general animal breeder you can work with many species, while a specialised breeder builds deep knowledge of one type of animal.
Is there strong demand for animal breeders in Flanders?
The demand in Flanders is steady rather than massive: kennels, breeding farms and specialised businesses regularly look for people who combine a love of animals with discipline and accuracy. Because animals need care every day, reliable staff who also want to work weekends are especially valued. Experience with a specific species strengthens your position.
