What is the difference between a facade renovator and a concrete repairer?
A concrete repairer, in Dutch a betonhersteller, specialises in restoring damaged concrete elements. A facade renovator covers the whole facade: repairing masonry, repointing, waterproofing, painting and installing cladding. In practice many professionals combine both, which is why the Dutch job title gevelrenoveerder-betonhersteller exists.
Is there demand for facade renovators in Flanders?
Yes, a large share of the buildings in Flanders is ageing, and owners keep investing in the maintenance and renovation of their facades. Repairing concrete and masonry, treating damp and refreshing finishes generate steady work. Specialised facade companies regularly look for craftspeople who work precisely and safely.
Which diplomas or certificates do you need as a facade renovator?
You do not need a specific diploma to become a facade renovator. You learn the trade on site or through a construction course, and employers mainly look at the quality of your repair and finishing work. A VCA basic safety certificate is requested on many sites, so obtaining it early is a smart move.
