You set the machine parameters, monitor the production and step in when faults or deviations occur, carrying out first line maintenance on the machine. You check the quality of the products and draw up production and incident reports, working according to the safety rules.

Your foundation for this occupation
A press operator needs to understand the interaction between press, substrate and printed image. Practical training in the relevant printing process is useful. Ask whether the company uses offset, flexography or another method and expects independent setup. Experience on one press does not equal knowledge of every process.
From preparation to your first day
Develop the practical skills
Follow an order from preparation to approved production. Compare the job with stock, printing forms and the agreed proof. Under supervision, learn to recognise registration and image defects and record permitted corrections. Identify the cause before changing several settings at once.
Check your work
Perform specified checks throughout the run against the approved reference. Separate rejected and accepted material and record where a defect began. Check suitability for the next finishing stage. Correct colour alone does not compensate for wrong positioning or stock.
How can you grow?
Progression includes independent printing, complex jobs and shift responsibility. Improvement work requires understanding start-up waste, stoppages and stable quality. Learning prepress and finishing supports a later planning or technical coordination role.
