You first determine the right way to carry out the job, then you fit and adjust the production tooling, carry out precision work and assemble the mechanical parts into a working whole. You check the assembly of each workpiece and make sure everything runs as it should. The role is also known as mechatronics assembly technician, mechanical fitter or machine assembler.

Your foundation for this occupation
Machine building means translating an assembly drawing into a sequence of parts, connections and checks. Mechanical training is a useful starting point; pneumatics and mechatronics become more relevant when actuators and sensors are included. Ask whether the workshop builds repeat machines or prototypes, where discrepancies require more discussion with the design team.
From preparation to your first day
Develop the practical skills
Build a practice module with a frame, guide and moving component. Learn to identify reference surfaces, match parts to the bill of materials and install fasteners to specification. Check that later assembly points remain accessible. A considered sequence prevents dismantling a finished section to fit a forgotten component.
Check your work
Check alignment, free movement and play before releasing the module for a functional test. Record drawing discrepancies and obtain approval for changes instead of quietly modifying parts to fit. Cables, hoses and guards must also remain clear throughout movement and accessible for maintenance.
How can you grow?
Mechanical assembly can lead to precision fitting, mechatronic modules or installation and commissioning at customer sites. A working team leader also coordinates parts availability, assembly order and handover. Field work requires willingness to travel and clear reporting as well as practical assembly skills.
