What will you do?
Sometimes you insulate heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems as well. You set up the site, measure the pipes and appliances, apply the insulation and check that coverings are sealed and watertight. The role is also known as industrial insulator or pipe and appliance insulation fitter.

Your foundation for this occupation
Industrial insulation requires measuring and careful work around pipes, bends, valves and equipment. Understand whether the application concerns heat loss, cold service or another requirement. Ask about materials and jacketing systems. Training should include reading insulation details.
From preparation to your first day
Develop the practical skills
Measure a pipe section and translate it into fitted insulation and covering. Consider bends, junctions and parts requiring access. Follow the selected system detail. During renovation, unknown old insulation needs assessment; visual resemblance to ordinary fibre insulation is not sufficient identification.
Check your work
Check continuity, junctions and protective covering. Interruptions in a specified cold-service system can cause later problems. Record checks before jacketing conceals the work. A tidy metal exterior does not prove correct installation underneath.
How can you grow?
Specialisations include complex geometry, sheet-metal coverings, cold insulation and planning. Industrial sites also require local access and work procedures. A team leader coordinates with maintenance to preserve valve and inspection access.
