What will you do?
The job is also known as ambulance worker, ambulance driver or emergency responder. You drive an ambulance and transport people in distress to care facilities. You install the patient, provide help and assistance in emergency situations and assist the medical team during urgent patient transport.

Your foundation for this occupation
Belgian emergency ambulance work requires recognised training, examination, a valid brevet and 112 badge, plus continuing training. Check entry with a recognised centre and service. A general first-aid course does not replace the professional pathway.
From preparation to your first day
Develop the practical skills
Learn coordinated intervention work during training and placement. Practise gathering information, communication and equipment preparation under taught procedures. Know your role and limits and follow authorised clinical instructions. Preparation also includes vehicle and equipment readiness before calls.
Check your work
Provide clear handovers and factual required records. Discuss deviations with the responsible person and use available debriefing after demanding incidents. Confirm readiness for the next call under service procedures. Speed without coordination is not a quality measure.
How can you grow?
Experience may lead to mentoring under applicable conditions. Other clinical roles need their own education. Ask about starter supervision, shifts, exercises and support following difficult events.

No. Driving is only one part of emergency support, teamwork and careful handling of information and equipment. Professional training and valid eligibility are essential alongside driving skills.
