You work in stage and audiovisual technique, in theatres, concert venues, event locations and on film and television sets. The work is physical and hands-on, close to culture and art, and often involves working at height. Hours are irregular around build-ups, shows and get-outs, and touring or working on location is common.
What is the difference between a stage technician and an assistant stage technician?
A stage technician carries out and takes responsibility for the full build: rigging, scenery, lighting and sound set-ups. An assistant stage technician supports that work, for example carrying, cabling and helping with the build under guidance, but does not carry the same overall responsibility. Assistant is often the entry route towards a full stage technician role.
