As a building materials production operator you set up and operate an automated installation or production line that makes building materials such as plaster tiles, concrete roof tiles or concrete blocks. The job is also known as machine operator building materials, brickworks operator or production operator in the concrete industry. You check the production order, set the machine parameters, start the line and monitor the process. When something deviates or breaks down, you step in, solve the problem and record it in production and incident reports. You also check stock and product quality, carry out first-line maintenance and always follow the safety rules and environmental standards. In Flanders you find this work in the building materials, ceramics and glass industry, often in a shift system.

Indicative Belgian pay range: €17–€23 gross per hour. Shift premiums often come on top of the base wage. Employee pay estimate; actual pay depends on experience, sector pay scales and working hours. Premiums, overtime and benefits are separate.
