As a building caretaker you watch over one or more buildings and act as the first point of contact for visitors and users. The job is also known as janitor or concierge. You supervise the building and its property, control the access of people and goods and check that the rules are respected. You inspect the safety devices, report defects and damage and handle complaints from residents or users. On top of that you keep the building and its direct surroundings clean and maintain the communal installations. Distributing mail, managing keys or doing small odd jobs can be part of the role as well. In Flanders you can work in apartment buildings, residences, schools or hotels. It is a job for people who like taking responsibility and dealing with others.
