What will you do?
You set up the site, prepare the work and dismantle old joinery before you install new frames, doors and trim. You place insulation material and finish interior woodwork to a clean standard, then you tidy the site and work safely and with respect for the environment. The trade is also known as interior carpenter, joinery fitter or staircase installer.

Read installation plans and check actual site dimensions. Doors, stairs and fitted furniture must meet a building that may not be perfectly square.
From preparation to your first day
Develop the practical skills
Practise fitting, levelling and fixing a door frame or cabinet. Protect finished components and coordinate with other trades.
Check your work
Check squareness, gaps, hardware operation and damage. Test doors and drawers in their actual use direction at handover.

Specialise in stairs, fitted wardrobes or complex interiors and progress to installation responsibility.

Finished floors, plaster and corners may differ from design dimensions. Site checks prevent a correctly manufactured part from failing to fit.
