Your foundation for this occupation
Nature or forestry management training helps you understand species, landscapes and management work. Develop the practical skills
Practise a mapped site round with precise observations. Record location, date and what you actually see, such as path damage or vegetation change. Explain temporary closures to visitors. Distinguish ecological observations, maintenance reports and incidents needing referral.
Check your work
Verify observations before drawing conclusions and use agreed records. Handle conflict within your appointment and procedures. Formal enforcement requires the relevant authority; a job title alone does not confer it. At interview, explain communication with visitors and field crews.

Specialise in management planning, species monitoring, visitor engagement or authorised supervision. Employers include public bodies and land managers. Ask about weekend rounds, independent outdoor work, administration and cooperation with volunteers or contractors.
