Answers to the most common questions about applying via Werkvolk.

What does a Plasterer do?

A plasterer applies plaster, lime or plasterboard to walls and ceilings so that interiors get a smooth, finished surface. You prepare the substrate, mix the plaster and apply wet interior plastering. You also place plaster blocks, fit lightweight partition walls and false ceilings and finish the plasterwork, always following the safety rules on site.

How much does a Plasterer earn in Belgium?

A plasterer in Belgium usually earns between 15 and 22 euros per hour gross. The exact wage depends on experience, the sector and site allowances. Specialising in decorative plaster or restoration work and taking on a team leader role push the pay towards the top of that range.

What qualifications do you need to become a plasterer?

There is no single mandatory diploma, but a vocational training in plastering or drywall finishing gives you a strong start and teaches you the substrate, mixing and finishing techniques. Many workers learn on the job through an apprenticeship. A VCA safety certificate is often requested because you work on active construction sites.

Can you start as a plasterer without experience?

Yes, you can start without experience through an apprenticeship or an entry level role in a finishing crew. You begin by setting up the site, preparing substrates and mixing plaster, and you build up the applying and finishing skills under the guidance of an experienced plasterer. Reliability and a willingness to learn matter most at the start.

What can you grow into as a plasterer?

With experience you can grow into a team leader or foreman of a plastering crew, coordinating the work and the site setup. Related finishing trades are within reach too, such as interior fitter, painter and decorator, interior joinery installer or tiler. Specialising in decorative or restoration plasterwork is another rewarding direction.
